"Art is the highest form of hope." - Gerhard Richter
Gerhard Richter - Victoria II
Gerhard Richter's "Abstract Paintings" are arguably the best-known works of contemporary German art. They represent a radical renewal of painting: Using a squeegee (a large scraping stick), Richter pulls the paint across the canvas, destroying the composition and simultaneously creating something entirely new – an interplay of chance, planning, and infinite depth.
"Victoria II" is a prime example of this creative phase. The motif, based on one of the famous paintings Richter originally created for Victoria Insurance, captivates with its explosive use of color. Luminous reds, yellows, and blues break through the gray veils, creating a dynamism that immediately enthralls the viewer.
The print offered here is a high-quality edition from 2003. It is a color offset print on heavy card stock that impressively reproduces the brilliance of the original oil painting (from 1987). The work is signed in print (the signature and date were reproduced using the printing process) and was part of a limited edition of 500 copies. A piece of art history in an accessible format – ideal for collectors who appreciate Richter's aesthetic and are looking for an authentic classic for their walls.
